We began working with Ratton School in August 2015, where a condition survey of the building and grounds was commissioned. This survey allowed us to assist the school in making informed decisions about the improvement and wider management of its estate. We identified a number of issues with key components of the building fabric, which we presented to the school in a comprehensive report, including proposals for improvement works.
We then worked closely with the school to prepare successful Condition Improvement Fund bids on their behalf, with the funding used for a number of projects to improve the school’s estate. To date, we have carried out design, procurement and contract management services for the replacement of the school’s flat roof coverings, windows, doors and its boiler plant and controls.
The projects have not been without their challenges, the most significant of which was the need to complete extensive construction works within the school term. To manage this challenge, we worked closely with the school and the Principal Contractor to programme the works in a phased manner, ensuring there was minimal disruption and that daily operations could continue. The schemes have transformed the school, enhancing its appearance while significantly improving thermal performance, creating a more comfortable environment for its users.
In 2017, Ratton School partnered with nearby Ocklynge Junior School to form South Downs Learning Trust. We liaised closely with the Headteacher and Business Manager of Ratton School during this time to assist with their due diligence – a key part of which was managing assets for which they became responsible. We subsequently conducted surveys and suggested priority condition improvement works, enabled through further CIF funding, and oversaw their successful delivery, continuing our relationship with the Trust.
