We provided employer’s agent, cost consultancy and building services engineering services for the Cat B fitout of Monson House, a two-storey office building in the centre of Tonbridge Wells. The works included a full strip out to two and a half floors, remodelling, new building services including air conditioning, and external works to the flat roof to create a lunch terrace.
The project was originally going to be phased floor by floor to allow occupation throughout the build to avoid disruption to the client’s ongoing operations. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in office workers being instructed to work from home, we took the opportunity to proceed with the works while the office was vacant. This allowed us to reduce the programme and cost whilst carrying out the works in a safe and monitored environment. No coronavirus cases were recorded on site during the entirety of the contract.
Completing the works during the pandemic did, however, create a challenge in sourcing some of the mechanical and electrical equipment that had become temporarily unavailable due to worldwide supply issues. Despite this, we were able to obtain all the required equipment and complete the works on time to the desired specification.
