Full refurbishment works to provide a dojo, bleep test track, and a fitness area, as well as shower and changing facilities for the Metropolitan Police fitness training facility based in Sidcup, Kent.
Baily Garner was commissioned by Axis Europe to undertake design and consultancy services for this project, procured under a design and build contract between the Metropolitan Police and Axis Europe Plc.
Following refurbishment of the redundant offices located on the ground floor of Marlowe House, our brief was to include a fully padded dojo, bleep test track, area for cardio fitness equipment, changing rooms and showering facilities.
As lead designer for the contractor, following initial surveys of the building we presided over design team meetings, prior to agreement to the contractor’s proposals.
Our drawings and design proposals gave precise detailing for fixtures and fittings, partitions types, floor details and colour choices.
Preparation of contractor’s proposals and working drawings involved co-ordination with specialist subcontractors, the employer’s agent and our client, whilst ensuring compliance with the employer’s requirements and building regulations.
We received Metropolitan Police approval and a commendation from their employer’s agent for the exceptional standard of our contractor’s proposals.
As works progressed, ongoing design and technical advice was given during site visits, particularly in relation to underground services and channels, ensuring any potential problems with the approved design were promptly identified and avoided.
Successful collaboration with Axis Europe, their mechanical and electrical engineers, structural engineers and the Metropolitan Police ensured delivery of a high quality, well designed facility for our Client.
