Lewisham Council's first new build Council housing for 30 years, the first of many planned under a joint initiative between Lewisham Council and Lewisham Homes.
The new affordable rent homes at Mercator Road Estate, Lee include 2 no. 2 bed houses at Freshfield Close and 4 no. 3 bed houses at Atlas Mews, all built to meet energy efficient standards using solar panels, triple glazed windows and new efficient ventilation systems. Each dwelling also enjoys a private family garden, bike store, refuse and composting facilities. The project had an existing substation, drainage diversions and a number of party wall matters to resolve before building works could commence.
Part of the £1.1 million new development included transforming and improving unsightly, under-utilised surrounding areas on estate, along with employment and training opportuities for local people, aiming to revitalise the neighbourhood.
Baily Garner acted as Employer’s Agent and CDMC for the development on a former garage site, which was handed over by the Mayor of Lewisham in March 2015.
