Baily Garner were appointed Architect and Employer’s Agent to deliver a new development of 40 affordable and shared ownership homes at Cranwell Road, replacing 44 existing substandard flats built in the 1970s. With additional services provided by our Environmental Group for this £5 million scheme, the new energy efficient homes include18 affordable family houses with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms, private front and back gardens and off road parking, together with 22 flats, 11 for shared ownership, with 1 or 2 bedrooms, communal areas to the front and rear and a 22 space shared parking area. A two bed wheelchair house, designed to achieve full Habinteg standards, was also included in the scheme.
Completed in 2014, new homes were designed to meet HCA design requirements and to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, incorporating very high levels of insulation whilst providing 10% of renewables for energy, particularly through the use of solar panels to south-east facing roofs. The modern new development has a distinct character, inspired by the villas in the immediate vicinity and designed to link with the size and scale of the existing terraces along Cranwell and Bretland Road
