A new 7,500m² Community Hospital built on a brownfield site. The state of the art building provides modern replacement healthcare facilities to Newton Abbot and surrounding districts. The experienced project team worked collaboratively to achieve an outstanding community facility. Due the sites sloping nature and steep embankment the area was in need of significant remodelling to suit construction and provide adequate flood defences.
The facility provides 60 stroke and primary care beds, a rehabilitation suite, outpatients departments including audiology, physiotherapy, podiatry, a minor injuries unit, a maternity unit and an imaging suite. The finished building, archives an EPC rating A, incorporates investments such as a combined heat and power unit, sensor controlled lighting and triple glazing. The design maximises the use of natural light and ventilation to conserve energy and maintain a comfortable user environment. The completed Community Hospital has received Health Investor Magazine’s ‘PFI Deal of the Year’ award.
