Baily Garner were appointed by the London Borough of Wandsworth to provide professional services for two single storey extensions to Greenmead Primary School in Putney, a special school catering for disabled children aged 2 to11. The new buildings, required to increase pupil capacity, were to be built whilst the school remained in full occupation. This challenge became more acute due to the density of buildings on the site and the close proximity of housing, an adjoining primary school and MOD property.
With no alternative site available, the new extensions were to be erected over an existing mains sewer running beneath the site, involving close liaison with Structural and Civil Engineers and Thames Water to ensure the proposed foundation design met all the necessary standards. Baily Garner’s Mechanical & Electrical Consultants were appointed to appraise the condition of the existing M&E installation, adapting and extending the design into the new teaching facilities, including heat recovery ventilation.
