Following a change to the teaching ages at Stafford Leys Community Primary School, additional accommodation became necessary for their expanded year 6 teaching provision. This took the form of a new classroom block providing a large, modern reception classroom which was fully integrated with the school’s IT systems, plus additional communal facilities linked to an adjoining reception classroom. Baily Garner provided Architect, Cost Consultant, Contract Administrator and CDMC services for the project.
With a September deadline set programming was essential for the successful delivery of the project, particularly whilst working in occupied school buildings before the summer break. During this period the children were able to view progress of the works through peepholes in the contractor's hoarding. Works continued throughout the summer completing in August 2014, with only minor variations to the contract sum required following additional requests from the school as the building evolved. The school was also able to include works to link corridors to the new block and to refurbish communal areas historically suffering from roof leaks.
