This scheme involved the refurbishment of an existing Grade II Listed building which had fallen out of daily use to provide facilities for University College London’s Media Studies Department. The works consisted of stripping out all redundant services installations and undertaking design of completely new Mechanical & Electrical Services Installations to provide heating, cooling, ventilation, small power, lighting, fire alarm, security and IT infrastructure for the new offices, general teaching accommodation, specialist media viewing facilities, student common room and circulation spaces.
Detailed surveys were required to assist with understanding the existing services installations, whilst taking into account the structural implications and the need to retain certain architectural features such as plaster coving, dado rails and fire places. There was a great deal of detailed design discussions held with UCL and their specialist suppliers to ensure that all of the data, video and sound systems were delivered correctly and fully integrated into the design solution.
The project also included internal refurbishment of an adjacent linked building, together with external Courtyard enhancement works providing “European City Square” style open air meeting areas for use by Students throughout the year.
