Lincoln Hall playgroup is a small registered charity catering for 2-5 year olds. The external playspace is a very important part of the facility and also the learning environment. In recent years playground surfaces and equipment had begun to look tired and in need of improvement. Our brief was to provide a scheme enabling the playgroup to expand their numbers up from 16 to 24 and also allowing the new external area to be integrated in to the new extended playgroup supporting the EYFS.
Our external landscaping design would provide a natural, unstructured but incredibly interesting range of activities such as a water feature, small stages for performances, a quiet garden, the retention of ‘the mound’, a sand pit and other features. Whilst the playgroup relocated during the works, the construction site was part of a community building which continued to operate, therefore minimizing noise and disruption to the adjacent users was paramount to establishing good relations and delivering a successful project.
