The Queens Road scheme redevelops a site used for office and warehouse purposes into a mixed-tenure, mixed-use development comprising 158 residential units and 5000m² of B1 commercial space. Our design proposals have been developed in partnership with the London Borough of Southwark to ensure the Borough’s housing needs are met and the new buildings have been sympathetically designed using a restrained palette of materials to ensure a contemporary, high quality feel. Fifty seven per cent of the proposed residential accommodation is affordable – both for rent and shared ownership. As part of the contract four substantial Listed Buildings on the Borough’s ‘Buildings At Risk’ Register have been refurbished into single family dwellings.
Queens Road is a demonstration project which incorporates modern methods of construction such as SIPS and timber frame. The project also includes a ground source heat pump, solar collector panels, grey water recycling and photovoltaic cells. The scheme brings a wide range of planning benefits and meets key objectives of both the Government and Local Authority, principally through the regeneration of the site, provision of units for social and private occupation and the retention of employment uses.
